Perdomo Habano Bourbon Barrel Aged Connecticut

Well folks, today I’m in that mood again. It’s time for another mild cigar. But not just any cigar. Up to bat is the Perdomo Habano Bourbon Barrel Aged Connecticut. A Nicaraguan handmade that is taking the country by storm, and for good reason. After a recent brand image overhaul, they hit the shelves once again at the beginning of this year.

What am I smoking?

Cigar Review: Perdomo Habano Bourbon Barrel Aged Connecticut

Packaging & Design
These cigars come packaged in rectangular boxes of 24. The intricacies of the branding on these smokes is top-notch in terms of design. Between the color schemes, embossing and print work, I can tell it took a bit of time to get these boxes and bands to look the way they do. The pictures below will show the details up close.

First Impressions
As for the cigars, they’re crafted with care. The veins and seems on the Perdomo Habano Bourbon Barrel Aged Connecticut are minimal, their construction is even and the foot is packed nice and tight. The cigar has a firm but still offers a slight give when squeezed. Aromas of leather and deep oak escape the foot. After cutting, powerful notes of cedar and aged tobacco are present in the prelight draw.

The Smoke
Once again using this stellar Black Label quad-jet torch lighter, the Perdomo Habano Bourbon Barrel Aged Connecticut wastes no time getting started. Right away, soft notes of raisins and pecans sit towards the front of my palate leaving a creamy finish behind.

During the halfway mark, although this is a mild-bodied cigar, it’s full of classic Nicaraguan nuances. Rich leather, white pepper and aged tobacco kick in once the cigar begins to warm up. Construction at this point is doing well, just needing a quick touch up on one side due to a slight wave. The ash holds on strong, and the draw still has a pleasing amount of resistance making for a slow burn.

Finishing up, and all the notes that were present during the second third are still all there, but have built slightly in their intensity. It’s performance is solid, never getting too hot even when closing in on the nub. It certainly scratched the itch for what I was looking for today.

Final Thoughts
The Perdomo Habano Bourbon Barrel Aged Connecticut is a must try if you’re a fan of mild/medium powered cigars. And at this price point, there’s no reason not to. It stand out from the crowd because it offers a richer experience than some of the other Connecticut wrapped sticks out there. Typically, cigars like these have that kind of vermouth-like dryness to them, but not with this one. It’s a great Nicaraguan blend to change things up from what you might be used to. The flavor was solid all the way through and paired great with my coffee this morning.
