Davidoff Master Selection 2007 Burn

Davidoff Master Selection 2007 Toro Cigar Review

This year Davidoff release a few different renditions of The Master Selection, a series of cigars blended by Eladio Diaz to celebrate his birthday. Originally the cigars were only given out to close friends and family. How does this one compare to the 2010 and the 2013 Editions? There is only way to find out and today we light up one to share our thoughts.

Cigar Review: Davidoff Master Selection 2007

Filler: Dominican Republic (San Vicente Ligero, Piloto Seco, Hybrid Corojo/Olor Ligero and San Vicente Mejorado Visus)

Ring Gauge: 52

The Look: The 10 count box that the Davidoff Master Selection comes is your basic cabinet box, but the simplicity of the design works for this limited edition which is individually numbered. Inside the box is a dark looking cigar has a nice oily sheen to it, and finding a vein is damn near impossible. There are two bands present, the first being the classic Davidoff logo with the secondary denoting The Master Selection 2007 with the signature of Eladio Diaz. In the hand the cigar is firm with a well packed foot and a nice weight to it.

The Notes: The foot of the cigar serves up some earthy notes of hay and cedar, but there is also a hint of cinnamon on the nose. The cold draw is has some nuttiness to it with touches of cedar and earth. It closer to that classic Davidoff profile than the other Master Selection releases. After we toast and light the cigar the first note is refined chocolate.

As we smoke the first third the cigar takes on a flavor profile that is quite different from what one has come to expect from Davidoff. There is a nice spice to the cigar that gives it the feel of something you would expect to have Nicaraguan tobacco. There is a nice spicy component, with hints of cinnamon, licorice and a nice nutty finish. The retrohale is smooth and it adds some chocolate sweetness to the mix.

As we entered the second third some fig like notes begin to develop on both the palate and the aroma. There is also a continued subtle licorice that becomes the dominant note around the half way point. There is a lingering sweetness on the finish as well that is enhanced by the retrohale on this remarkable balanced cigar. As the second third comes to a close I can begin to taste the San Vincente and that classic Davidoff component begins to emerge.

As we close out the experience known as the Davidoff Master Selection 2007 their are notes of cedar, hay and earth the classic components of Davidoff. Some pepper notes begin to emerge on the retrohale and the finish of the cigar becomes somewhat lengthy but enjoyable.

The Finish: The Davidoff 2013 set the bar high, so high that I wondered how the rest of the Master Selection could compete. Because the bar was so high, the 2010 may of suffered some, but the 2007 meets those expectations. Im going to score the cigars the same, but this one is fractions better which translates that the company has saved the best for last. If you loved the 2013, this one is definitely box worthy.

Score: 97
Price: $34.99 / $332.99
