Law | Hermosa Beach Tobacco Ban Enforcement

Despite the law being on the books for more than 3 years, Hermosa Beach City Council has given into to pressure from American Lung Association to begin enforcing the law which prohibits smoking in public areas such as the Strand, city pier and Pier Plaza.

The city has also begun a study to look into the possibility of licensing tobacco sellers.

The vote which was held on Tuesday was unanimous to tighten up enforcement of the smoking ban that also covers outdoor dining areas, the beach, cit owned parking and city parks.

The council did however reject a suggestion from the Los Angeles County public health officials to extend the smoking ban to apartments. There are currently 10 cities in the county that has banned smoking in apartments.

Hermosa Beach is home to 19,500 residents over 1.427 square miles and was founded in 1907.
