Proposal To Ban Smoking In Lafayette, LA Bars Fails

In May, the Lafayette City Council defeatedĀ a measure to ban smoking in all bars by a 5-4 margin. However, earlier this month members of the council reached a compromise that would only ban smoking in bars with live music. That measure was set to be vote on come September 1st.

That vote has been pulled after special interest groups pushed for a comprehensive smoking bars. The Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco Free Living spoke out against the ban and the exemptions being made.

The group says it will continue to push for a complete ban while Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux who filed for the initial smoking ban in May says he has no plans to revisit the measure anytime soon.
