Wareham, MA Bans Smoking On Beaches For 2016

In 2016, the ability to light up a cigar on the beaches of Wareham will be a thing of the past. The measure which came from the town anti-littering organization will be voted on by the Board of Health and includes parks, playgrounds and public recreational areas.

The measure was originally not part of the boards meeting agenda this week, but was discussed and will be passed once a public meeting is held on October 21 as a formality.

The proposal from Don’t Trash Wareham was warmly accepted by the board members, but one did question the efficiency of enforcing such a ban.

The measure will be enforced by a self-policing effort.
