On this weeks episode of The Cigar Authority we recapped the 2018 IPCPR and the first cigar we smoked was part of the July Care Package. As has become customary after the show ends we review one of the cigars smoked and today that happens to be the 22N / 83W.

The Look: Packaged in cabinet style boxes of cedar, the 22N / 83W features a band of yellow and black with a compass logo and images of a map on the side. The dark looking Corojo wrapper from Brazil has some thin veins and an abundance of oils. It feels toothy under the fingers and is heavy for its size with no soft spots and a well packed foot.
The Notes: The cold draw has a grape Kool-aid like sweetness to it, not the drink, but the powder along with some salted cashews. The aroma off the foot of the cigar is an enticing cedar and earth. Once we toast the foot of the cigar the first flavor profile is dark chocolate that instantly appears without much thought.
As we smoke the first third the dark chocolate note slides into the background as some cashew notes develop with a nice salty component as well. About a half-inch in, I retrohale the cigar for the first time and am treated to a touch of wheat and a blast of black pepper. The finish of the cigar has a subtle sweetness to it and an enjoyable lingering aroma.
It the second third the nuttiness begins to dissipate as an espresso note beings to take hold with hints of earth and an abundance of pepper especially through the nose on the retrohale. As the second third comes to a close its a spice bomb and oh so delicious.
The 22N / 83W concludes with well-defined notes of walnuts and cedar as the pepper notes begin to subside. The aroma of the cigar is sweet and woody with a moderate finish.
The Finish: The wrapper on this release of the 22N / 83W seems a little darker and little more oily and that’s a good thing. It feels like the flavors of the cigar pop even more. In 2017 we named Aladino Cigar of the Year, and that cigar features a one nation blend of Authentic Corojo. This cigar features a 5 nation blend of Corojo tobacco. It’s a great cigar to smoke side by side, and if you like things a little stronger and with more spice this is for you.
