Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection Corona Gorda Cigar Review

The Signature Leaf has been aged for 7 years and features the rare medio tiempo leaf in the filler. The cigar was limited to just 500 boxes per size and after 2GuysCigars.com sold out of their initial allotment they were able to get their hands on more. So as I walked through the store today on the way back to my desk I reached for one of my favorite limited release cigars from 2018.

Cigar Review: Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection
Wrapper: Nicaragua Rosado Claro Corojo ’99
Binder: Nicaragua Corojo ’99
Filler: Nicaragua Criollo ’98 and Corojo ’99
Length: 6″
Ring Gauge: 44
Size: Corona Gorda

The Look: Three of the four sizes come packaged in 20 count boxes. The lone exception is the Corona Gorda which has 25 cigars. Inside the cigars which come in cello and have gold foil paper covering the lower half of the cigar. The primary band denotes Aganorsa Leaf and a secondary band states Signature Selection.  In the hand the cigar is firm and perfectly rolled with no voids of tobacco under the fingers. In addition to the different box count, the Corona Gorda also features a fan tail cap.

The Notes: The cold draw serves up a grape like sweetness with a rich butter sweetness that is reminiscent of a lorna doone cookie. The aroma off the foot has some nuttiness with some pepper. Once the cigar is list the initial taste is red pepper flakes.

Moving into the first third there is a nuttiness with subtle notes of oak. The retrohale serves up massive amounts of red pepper. About an inch into the cigar things begin to change-up with hints of coffee and an earthy finish.

The second third sees the earthy components, of wheat and hay become dominant with some subtle chocolate in the background. The finish of the cigar is nutty while the retrohale continues to deliver an abundance of red pepper.

As we close things out, the cigar remains earthy with notes of  hay, earth and cedar. There is some nuttiness on the finish of the cigar with continued pepper on the retrohale with a long finish.

The Finish: The Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection has a distinct flavor profile that helps make this cigar stand out. While I prefer the Toro format the most, the Corona Gorda is a close second. It’s long finish is enjoyable and smooth, which keeps me buying more. It’s a limited edition of just 500 boxes which makes it worthy of a box purchase.

Score: 93
Price: $9.19 / $202.99
