Law | Lexington, MA Gives Board of Health Tobacco Control

On Wednesday, at the Town Meeting in Lexington, MA the Board of Health was given the authority to regulate tobacco use and sales. The Town Meeting voted 128-36 in favor to transfer full control the Board of Health. There are currently 55 Massachusetts municipalities that have change the smoking age to 21. Lexington, Massachusetts is home to 30,000 residents over 16.5 square miles and was settled in 1642.

Law | Nevada Bill Proposes Car Smoking Ban With Those Under 18

Yesterday, Assemblyman Mike Sprinkle a Democrat from Nevada brought forth legislations that would make it illegal to smoke in a car if someone under the age of 18 is present. News | Padron Cigars Announces Price Increase

This week Padron mailed out a letter to retailers informing them of an increase in operating costs in both the United States and Nicaragua which would result in a price increase on their cigars. While no percentage was announced in the letter, the price sheet appears to reflect a $0.20 to $0.30 cent increase per cigar on the retail level. The price increase is set to go into effect on April 1st, 2015.

Asylum Cigars is releasing the Asylum 13 Nicaragua, Corojo and Ogre in two new sizes both of which are setsto ship in bundles with trays. Law | Minnesota Rep. Proposes Premium Cigar Tax Cut

A proposal by Republican Representative Jim Nash in the state of Minnesota would significantly reduce taxes on premium cigars. The state held a hearing yesterday not he proposal, which will continue into today. Currently the tax in Minnesota on premium cigars is 95 percent of the wholesale cost, up to a total of $3.50. Law | Illinois Committee Approves Car Smoking Ban

An Illinois Senate Public Health Committee approved a bill on Tuesday that would make it illegal to smoke inside a vehicle if a person under the age of 18 is present. Bill SB0728 introduced by Democrat Senator Ira Silverstein changes the Illinois Vehicle Code to allow police offices to stop drivers as well as detain them if they are suspected of smoking with passengers under the age of 18. A bill that will raise the legal smoking age from Representative Teresa Tanzi, a Democrat from Rhode Island is under consideration by a house committee.
