Dos Hombres Candela Burn

Dos Hombres Candela 2017 Limited Edition Churchill Cigar Review

Forget about Groundhog Day being the measuring stick for spring. The real test for spring is St. Patrick’s Day, if your cigars or beer are green then we will be having an early spring.

In what has become a tradition in the cigar industry, numerous companies release a candela cigar every year a few weeks prior to March 17th, and last year Two Guys Smoke Shop joined the party in releasing what I honestly felt was one of the best Candelas that I had smoked. This year we see if they can duplicate that magic, which is harder than it seems.

Cigar Review: Dos Hombres Candela
Size: 7.5 x 50 (Churchill)
Wrapper: Candela
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Strength: Medium

The Look: The Dos Hombres Candela comes packaged in a bundle of 20 cigars. The candela wrapper this year has a smoother look to it with less veins and an even color. One of my favorite things about the appearance of Candela cigars is the contrast of the filler tobacco versus the green wrapper. In the hand the cigar is firm, with no voids of tobacco and a nice weight.

The Notes: The cold draw of the Dos Hombres Candela has a mint like note to it, and hits of chocolate sweetness, in fact before lighting this up I had to fight off the urge to run to the store and buy a package of junior mints. The nose off the foot has hints of cedar, hay and some subtle spice.

Once the cigar is lit, I am surprised by how smooth the cigar is. There are notes of nuts and earth and an ever so slight vegetal component that is synonymous with a Candela wrapper. It is so slight that I was hesitant to mention it. What I do want to mention is how thin the combustion line is on this cigar which is different from last year.

The second third of the cigar becomes toasty with notes of toasted bread, cedar and nuttiness. Through the nose the cigar has some subtle pepper and hints of mint which takes me back to the cold draw. Some sweetness begins to develop as well, and once again my craving for Junior Mints has returned.

The last third of the cigar comes off as Nicaraguan, with an abundance of nice spicy notes that don’t overpower the senses. There is some nutty notes and the cigar is earthy on the relatively short finish.

The Finish: There was so much that I liked about last year’s release that I was concerned if I would like it this year. This year, it is even better with more flavor and the wrapper performs better. It isn’t often a Candela cigar has a wow factor, but that is achieved with this superb green wrapper stick. In fact, I am prepared to call this the best Candela I have smoked to date.

Score: 91
Price: $3.89 / $58.99
