Happy Birthday Cigar – Cigar Review

Today, I’ve broken my own personal record of “Most Consecutive Days Lived”. So to celebrate the occasion of turning 26 years old, I figured I’d spark up a (literal) Happy Birthday cigar! There’s not a whole lot of background information on these cigars or the blend as it is a closely guarded secret. Let’s get into the review.

What am I Smoking?

Packaging & Design
These cigars come displayed in open top boxes of ten cigars. Each one is packaged in a thick glass tube with a golden fabric band that helps hold the stopper in. The band is large and in charge and lets anyone who sees you smoking it know today is your birthday day, as it is scrolled on the band. Even if it’s not your birthday, this may or may not lead to people being extra nice to you, which is certainly a plus.

First Impressions
The Happy Birthday cigar is a great looking smoke. The wrapper is light in color and has a velvety soft feel to it. Construction wise, it is very evenly packed, seamless and shows no signs of soft spots or damage. The glass tube offers some very good protection. This is a larger cigar, so I decided to use a Colibri Deep-V cut on it. The draw is very even and offers prelight notes of light coffee and sweet cedar.

The Smoke
After getting sparked up with my Vertigo Glock torch, the first thing I noticed is how incredibly smooth this tastes. It has a super creamy mouthfeel with notes of soft earth, a touch of white pepper and floral citrus nuances. The draw is great and offers plenty of smoke with each puff.

During the second third, the power has kicked up a bit but remains on the milder side of things. Notes of blonde roast coffee beans and mahogany start to become more apparent as the cigar heats up. The finish is long lasting and very “clean” which is a great quality for any cigar to have. The burn stared to get a little uneven, but a quick touch up brought things back in line.

Finishing up right around the hour and a half mark and I was very impressed with the performance of this cigar. The tasting notes have remained solid since the halfway point and I’m more than happy with it. Those same notes of light roasted coffee along with a creamy smooth mouthfeel made for a nice and easygoing experience.

Final Thoughts
This was a great cigar to enjoy for my birthday. It was very easygoing and offered some great tasting notes as it burned away. The Happy Birthday Cigar would make a great gift that can be enjoyed by anyone, especially if this is the first cigar they’ve ever had. This is one of the more “approachable” cigars out there. Plus, with them being in 10 count boxes, it would make for a great after dinner dessert for your party. I’ll be smoking another one soon, birthday or not.
