House of Representatives Passes HR 2339

Less then 24 hours after passing a resolution the House of Representatives voted on HR 2339. The vote came less than 12 hours after the Office of Management and Budget issued a statement against the support of the bill.

The bill which disguises itself as a preventive measure for youth vaping would cripple the cigar industry if it passes. Contained in the bill is language that would ban non face-to-face tobacco sales and it defines as premium cigar as costing at least $12.00.

US House Representative Richard Hudson (R-NJ) said it best today during the hearing for HR 2339 when he said, “The bill before us today is a partisan publicity stunt. This bill is not about youth vaping. This bill is the worst example of big brother, liberate elite telling the rest of us how to live our lives.

Just prior to the vote, Republicans tried to attach a measure to the bill that would provide health care to aborted fetuses that were born alive. That amendment was defeated almost along party lines by a vote of 220-187.

More than 3 hours after the session began the bill by Frank Pallone Jr. (D-NJ) passed by a vote of 215-195.

The bill now heads to the Senate.
