Law | Redwood County, MN Smoking Ban

Starting on November 1st, 2014 it will be illegal to light up on grounds owned by Redwood County in the state of Minnesota. However, Plum Creek Park will not be subjected to the new law due to its size and this inability to properly enforce the new ruling.

In addition all foster care homes and daycare facilities licensed by the county are now required to be smoke free as well.

According to Carol Biren, director of Southwest Health and Human Services, “When we restrict where tobacco can be used the more chance there is that people will quit,” said Biren who later went on to add that if children don’t see an adult smoking in public that they are less likely to begin smoking as an adult.

The law was passed this pass Tuesday.

Redwood County is home to just under 16,000 residents over 881 square miles and was founded in 1862.
