Recluse Los Cabos Toro Cigar Review

This week on The Cigar Authority we welcomes Scott Weeks to the show and we smoked a cigar from the care package. As has become customary after the show we review a cigar that was part of care package. Today that cigar is the Relcuse Los Cabos Toro.

Cigar Review: Recluse Amadeus Los Cabos
Wrapper: San Andres
Binder: Not Disclosed
Filler: Dominican Republic, USA (Pennsylvania)
Length: 6.25″
Ring: 50
Size: Toro

The Look: The Los Cabos comes packaged in a box that matches the color of the water off Los Cabos which is located on the Baja Peninsula. In a humidor full of wood, it pops and calls attention to it. Inside the bands of blue and silver were a pain to photograph. There is primary band that gives a dual band appearance denoting Recluse Amadeus and a silver foot ribbon to round things out. The wrapper is rustic under the fingers with the feel of fine sand paper. It’s a firm box press cigar with no voids of tobacco and a well packed foot.

The Notes: The foot of the cigar serves up a subtle raisin and fig note, while the cold draw of the cigar has some more raisins and a touch of apricots. Once the cigar is lit the primary note is leather.

Moving into the first third the leather pulls back some as notes of dark chocolate and cedar dominate the palate. The retrohale serves up leather and a subtle espresso note with a moderate finish.

The second third sees the leather note take hold of the palate with touches of espresso and dark chocolate. The retrohale is leathery but there is a subtle apricot nuance present as well. The finish grows in length, but I still wouldn’t call it a long finish.

As we wrap up the cigar the leather notes remain however, the espresso notes become dominant and they linger on the long finish. There is also a subtle raisin note with a hint of cedar.

The Finish: The Recluse Los Cabos is a pretty straight forward cigar. There aren’t many changes, but it’s consistant and enjoyable throughout. It featured a razor-sharp and thin burn line with a solid ash. It also provides a nice full body experience with medium-plush strength. It’s something I plan on smoking again with some Eagle Rare.

Score: 91
Price: $8.69 / $178.99
