Regius Exclusivo USA Pressed Perfecto Cigar Review

According to the Regius website, “The Exclusivo USA combines a traditional and nuanced flavor with a steady progression with contemporary shapes and sizes, using only the very finest Nicaraguan tobaccos. Each blend is crafted for its respective size, to achieve the optimum flavor and complexity. The concept is a true fusion of the old and new schools of cigar making, taking the best of both in order to create a truly unique experience.

Length: 6.5″
Ring Gauge: 54
Size: Pressed Perfecto

The Look: The Regius Exclusivo USA is something referred to as the red band due to the red white and silver motif. The Pressed Perfecto comes in 10 count boxes, which is different from the other sizes in the line. Inside the cigar features a reddish-brown wrapper with some noticeable veins. One thing stands out about this cigar is the foot is completely closed like the head of the cigar. In the hand the cigar is firm with no voids of tobacco.

The Notes: Before lighting we clip a bit of the foot for easier lighting as the cigar reveals mind and cedar reminding me of the mint tooth picks you would get while leaving a diner from the dispenser. The initial third offers up notes of soda bread to begin before being joined by some cocoa notes. The finish is long and earthy with a retrohale consisting of cedar and caraway seeds.

Sliding into the second third the cigar continues to be earthy with a touch of caramel and butterscotch sweetness. The halfway point of the cigar sees a touch of cinnamon added especially on the finish which also continues to be earthy. The retrohale of the smoke enhances the cinnamon component and also introduces a strong cedar component which carries over to the palate.

The last third sees cedar become dominant with an earthy undertone and a touch of pepper that is noticeable on the retrohale. The Pressed Perfecto from Regius is an anomaly of a cigar which the finish becoming shorter as it progresses.

The Finish: I expected the USA Exclusivo to be different when I first smoked it. When you think of a Nicaraguan Puro, you think pepper bomb, and tobacco that doesn’t come off as dense. Or at least what this cigar smoke believes. So the first time I smoked it, I was a tad confused. However, once I got rid of that preconceived notion the cigar really stood on its own. It’s a classic profile with a modern twist.
