New Jersey Bill Proposes Raising Cigar Tax 200%

Things could get ugly in the state of New Jersey if S284 gets passed. The bill sponsored by Joseph Vitale (D-Middlesex) and Loretta Weinber (D-Bergen) calls for the raising of the OTP tax which includes cigars from 30% to 90% of the wholesale price. Egg Harbor Township, NJ Park Smoking Ban Looming

The Township Committee of Egg Harbor, NJ which is located just west of Atlantic City is introducing an ordinance that would ban smoking at local parks. The ordinance which would ban cigarettes, cigars, pipes, electronic smoking devices and chewing tobacco would be discussed at a local hearing on December 16, 2016 at 5:30pm. Essex County, NJ Bans Smoking In Parks

Yesterday, the “Board of Chosen Freeholders” voted to approve an ordinance that now makes Essex County’s 33 parks smoke free. The measure which was pushed by the “Global Advisors on Smokefree Policy” advised the board throughout the drafting process. Essex County which is home to Newark joins Burlington, Camden, Hudson, Passaic, Somerset and Union as counties that have passed a smoke free parks law. Trenton, NJ Bans Smoking In Parks & More

Last year, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie vetoed a bill that would have banned smoking in parks and beaches.
