As part of their 10th Anniversary celebrations, Mombacho Cigars partnered with the international film director, Thomas Bowerbank, to create “Mombacho X”, a unique short documentary capturing the art of cigar making and the soul of Nicaragua through Mombacho’s vision. “This film captures the essence of Mombacho and our Nicaraguan experience and is a graceful reflection of our ten years in this beautiful country.” said Markus Raty, Co-Founder of Mombacho Cigars, who released the video on […]
While the La Conquista from Gran Habano would not be eligible to be grandfathered in, the company should be in great shape with many of its core lines coming out before 2007. The La Conquista comes as a sample from Gran Habano and will be available in three sizes at this years IPCPR in Las Vegas with an MSRP of $8 to $9. The cigar name translates to The Conquest, and while the cigar was […]

For me Memorial Day is one of those strange holiday weekends. Over the years it has become the official start of the summer with friends and family getting together for a BBQ, or heading to the beach. For me, I am heading camping if you can call it that. We rented a cabin at some a campground in Maine but is it really camping when your not sleeping under a tent. Anyway, as I was […]
Today I had no idea what to put up for review, so I asked my co-worker to pick me out a cigar. The only requirement was that it had to be a corona or smaller. The result is today’s 22N / 83W review. The numbers on the cigar are coordinates for Cuba, specifically Hacienda el Corojo, a plantation that once (1930 – 1990) grew arguably the best tobacco in the world. Today, having low yield and […]
Two new cigars were originally debuted for members of the TAA in addition to the TAA Exclusive Azabache. Those cigars were Prieto which is Spanish slang for dark-skinned and Chele, which is slang for light-skinned. The names provide an interesting take when applied to cigars with lighter and darker wrappers. The cigars also mark a change for Christian Eiroa who normally makes his cigars in Honduras, as he turned to Nicaragua and a un-disclosed factory […]
Last year, our very own Barry Stein released Kilo; cigar that he had been working on for quite some time. He was looking for something that would fit his palate, a cigar with strength and balance. So while Barry originally worked with La Aurora on the blend he turned to Noel Rojas to complete the project, which was ultimately rolled at the Aromas de Jalapa factory in Esteli, Nicaragua and distributed by United Cigar. And […]
This morning at work we were discussing some potential conspiracy theories regarding the FDA Regulations, and discussing if big tobacco was behind them to push the little guy out. If you listen to the show, you know my opinions on that; but the conversation made me think of Dion Giolito. Wether it be true or not, I always looked at him as someone into conspiracy and that led me to wanting today’s cigar. According to […]
Today’s cigar is an exclusive to the members of the Tobacconist Association of America. The TAA No. 48 arrived last week in its Maduro format which we reviewed, and this week saw the arrival of the Natural. With the FDA Regulations this week one has to wonder about future limited TAA releases and if this could be among the last. The 1926 blend was created in 2002 to celebrate Jose O. Padron’s 75th birthday. Cigar Review: Padron […]
