Toscano Duecento Cigar Review

This weekend Two Guys Smoke Shop hosted a dinner with Michael Cappellini from Toscano Cigars as we learned about the history of the Italian brand. One of the cigars featured at the dinner was the Duecento, Originally launch in Europe in 2018, the cigar has made its debut in the USA in 2020. Like most Toscano cigars it features fire cured tobacco, giving it the unique taste Toscano is known for. It was created to celebrate their 200th Anniversary and today we light one up for a full review.

The Look: Packaged in a 20 count box the Toscano embodies the phrase, “To know them, is to love them”. These cigars are not uniform in shape, and they are down right ugly. However, looks can be deceiving and that is the case when it comes to this Italian brand.

The Notes: The cold draw of the cigar is peaty and mossy which is expected for a cigar that features. Once the cigar is lit however, the fire cured is less dominant than some of the other Toscano lines. As we smoke our way to the half way point, I feel this cigar would pair better with grappa vs the earlier mentioned Scotch. There are notes of wood, spices and what reminds me of the roasted skin of a chicken or turkey that had various spices rubbed into it including oregano, paprika, black pepper and celery salt.

Moving into the second half of the cigar there is a subtle sweetness to the Duecento but the prevailing note is still wood with some continues spices of paprika and a hint of cinnamon. If you watched the show on Saturday we paid the cigar with some Nonino Grappa and it made Mr. Jonathan a believe in pairings. This is a cigar that changes up with alcohol. If you have any misconceptions about Grappa you need to look for Nonino who won the best distillery in the world in 2019. If your not bold enough to try Grappa this would work nice with a Double Oak Woodford Reserve.

The Finish: I always use the words guilty pleasure when describing Toscano cigars. The reason why is they aren’t a traditional cigar at all, and many people look at them and say no way based on the appearance. However, if your a fan of fire-cured tobacco these cigars are enjoyable and due to the way they are made they need little to no humidification which makes them perfect to keep in your glove compartment in your car as well as in your home.
