Late in 2017, Casa Fernandez hired Terence Reilly as their VP of Sales and Marketing. Less than 6 months later, the company rebranded to Aganorsa Leaf and now the company has released a cigar featuring the name. The Signature Leaf has been aged for 7 years and features the rare medio tiempo leaf in the filler. Each of the four sizes is limited to 500 boxes and today we fire up the Toro.
Cigar Review: Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection
Wrapper: Nicaragua Rosado Claro Corojo ’99
Binder: Nicaragua Corojo ’99
Filler: Nicaragua Criollo ’98 and Corojo ’99
Length: 6″
Ring Gauge: 52
Size: Toro
The Look: Three of the four sizes come packaged in 20 count boxes. The lone exception is the Corona Gorda which has 25 cigars. Inside the cigars which come in cello and have gold foil paper covering the lower half of the cigar. The primary band denotes Aganorsa Leaf and a secondary band states Signature Selection. In the hand the cigar is firm and perfectly rolled.
The Notes: The cold draw of the Signature cigar from Aganorsa serves up notes of mocha, peanuts and cedar. The aroma off he foot of the cigar has a subtle pepper that brings me to the edge of a sneeze with more mocha.
Once the cigar is lit, there is a subtle cocoa and milk chocolate note with hints of coffee and nuts. It’s a classic flavor profile, but it is incredibly smooth with a nice burst of pepper on the retrohale and a lengthy earthy finish.
The second third sees the earthy components, of wheat and hay become dominant with some subtle chocolate in the background. The finish of the cigar is nutty, reminding me of peanuts direct from the shell while the retrohale continues to deliver a lot of pepper.
As we close things out, the cigar remains earthy with notes of hay, earth and cedar. There is some nuttiness on the finish of the cigar with continued pepper on the retrohale with a long finish.
The Finish: The Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection lives up to the hype. It’s Aganorsa at it’s best, and while I would call the flavor profile classic, it is what you expect from the company. From its wonderful presentation to defined flavors this medium to full-bodied cigar is definitely box worthy especially considering how limited it is.
