Orange is the new cigar band color. There are a few companies who turned to the color orange for their cigar bands this and historically at least to my recollection it is an under used color. The Aging Room Solera Shade which got a full release this year at the 2017 IPCPR is one of the companies that went orange. Solera is in reference to a method of aging has been used for centuries in […]

The Perla del Mar Maduro is the follow-up to the highly acclaimed Perla del Mar line. Perla Del Mar was first conceived in the late 19th Century to honor Cuba’s highly acclaimed cigar heritage. With its rich, fertile soil creating the most flavorful cigar tobacco in the world, Cuba was regarded then as the true Peal of the Sea. Today the cigar is made in Nicaragua and is part of the JC Newman portfolio. At the […]

In anticipation of meeting AJ Fernandez where he will be visiting Two Guys Smoke Shop in Salem, NH on Saturday I opted to make my last review of the week the Last Call Habano Rosado. In addition to be being at the shop from 10am – 4pm he will be a guest on The Cigar Authority podcast which is broadcast right upstairs from Two Guys. It’s closing time and the bartender announces Last Call. It’s […]
One of my favorite stories to tell took place between 2003-2005, when a sales representative visited the cigar shop I, Barry was partners in. Glen Gutin came in pitching cigars, by Don Pepin Garcia, who he said was the next big thing and will be one of the hottest cigar manufactures in the industry. We smoked the cigars, and ordered them on the spot. 30 boxes of a couple of different lines. A big order […]
In June of 2016 Oliva Cigar Company was purchased by J. Cortes, a cigar company based in Belgium. The company also unveiled a new cigar at the 2016 IPCPR named Facundo. The cigar never reached the market as it had to undergo a name change due to a trademark issue with Bacardi. The cigar finally made it back to shelves this year at the 2017 IPCPR and is now arriving at retailers. Oliva cigar company […]
This weekend on The Cigar Authority the first cigar we will be lighting up is Mi Querida from Steve Saka who will be joining us live in studio. The episode is promising to be a doozy as Steve Saka will unleash his opinions on the 2017 IPCPR Convention that ended last week in Las Vegas. Those who know Steve, know he doesn’t hold anything back and for that reason alone you need to tune in. […]
Changing the band is always a risky move in my opinion and at the trade show Nick Perdomo was proudly showing off the new bands for the 20th Anniversary line. Based on pictures and video, the bands are truly amazing. However, the mindset of the consumer is that a new band equals a change to the cigar. Our friends at Hammer + Sickle went through that when they removed a secondary band that denoted Icon […]
This past week Asylum Cigars debuted their medulla oblongata which features a cigar wrapped in tissue paper. Which made me realize that the CLE Prieto has been on my list of cigars to smoke from last years trade show that I have overlooked for way to long. I constantly reach for the Chele, but today I decided to cross Prieto off my list and smoke it for review here at The Cigar Authority. Cigar: CLE Prieto Wrapper: […]
For the last 22 years not only has he made some of the most popular cigars in the industry, but he has also fought for our rights as cigar smokers in the public eye like no other manufacturer has done. To commemorate the 20th Rocky Patel has released a cigar that is described on his website as, “Celebrating 20 years in the business of creating iconic cigars, we couldn’t deliver something short of magnificent. This […]
