Cigar of the Year: BG Meyer Standard Issue

In  process that started back in January of last year The Cigar Authority began the process of picking Cigar of the Year. As new cigars arrived we began the process of smoking them and watching the sales at Two Guys Smoke Shop. In a sense the Cigar of the Year picked here is the most accurate of all the cigar blogs. Because we take consumers and retail into the equation. Narrowed down to 7 cigars; La […]

Cigar Review : Avo Domaine

When I first took up cigar smoking like many I picked up a Macanudo. It was a nice entry into cigar smoking back in 1998, but thankfully I quickly switched brands. After spending close a year smoking nothing but Padron 2000 naturals, I began venturing out. I’ve always been a creature of habit, and when I find something I like I tend to stick with it. For a long time it was the Domaine by Avo, […]

Cigar Review | Rocky Patel Vintage 1999

According to the Rocky Patel website, “The Vintage 1999 brand showcases the oldest true Connecticut shade wrapper on the market. This mild, smooth cigar compliments the pale, exquisite wrapper delivering all the toasty notes. The finest mild cigar that’s best described as creamy, buttery, nutty – or simply nuttery!” One cannot question all that Rocky Patel does for the cigar industry with his fighting for our rights versus those who do not understand the art […]

Cigar Review | Azan White Premium Line

For those of you who don’t know I work for Two Guys Smoke Shop during the week maintaining their website and doing mail order. I also work for The Cigar Authority which is a completely separate entity. Yesterday, for the first time in 30 years Two Guys Smoke Shop had to close because of the blizzard that hit New England. In Nashua where I work we got 31″ of snow while Salem and Seabrook each […]

Cigar Review | Padron ’64 Anniversary

Nine out of 10 times that I reach for a cigar from Padron it is a natural. This weekend on Twitter someone asked my opinion of the Maduro and asked for me to write a review for today’s smoke. According to the Padron website, “The Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series line was introduced in 1994 to commemorate our company’s 30th anniversary. This line consists of eleven sizes that are all available in sun-grown natural and maduro […]

Cigar Review | Avo Classic

Following the successful rebranding of Camacho, Davidoff decided this was time to rebrand the Winston Churchill and Avo lines. While not as a drastic as the Camacho rebranding the new Avo is much more subtle. The colors are lighter and brighter and the use of foil accentuates the new design making it more sleek and modern than before. According to the 4 pack box that the Avo Classic No. 2 arrived in, “This inviting blend of balance and refined taste is composed using rare tobaccos which […]

Top 10 Cigars Liked on Social Media

Tis the time of year when various cigar blogs and magazines are naming their list of top cigars for the year. While we won’t name our Cigar of the Year until January 31, 2015 (the day before the Super Bowl) we decided we would share our social media Top 10. Depending on the cigar posted to Instagram the likes can tell a story. For example a cigar like Macanudo might only get 52 likes, while […]

Cigar Review | Arturo Fuente Destino al Siglo

After years in the making, the Arturo Fuente Gran AniverXario Destino al Siglo was master blended to commemorate the company’s 100 year anniversary.. Made with wrappers from Chateau de la Fuente, this line of cigars uses a Habano seed rather than the Corojo seed used to make Opus X. The cigar is described as a full-flavor, robust smoke. I recently purchased a sampler pack from Two Guys Smoke Shop in which this cigar was a part […]

Review | Padron 1964 Anniversary

Back in 2008, I referred to the Padron Principe as my favorite cigar and scored it 100. I said in actuality it was a 94-96 but since it was my absolute favorite it deserved a perfect score at the time. Earlier this year, I smoked the Atabey which was the first cigar to receive a 100 rating here at The Cigar Authority. According to Padron, “The Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series line was introduced in 1994 […]

Cigar Review | Don Benigno Exigente

With today being Festivus, I figured I would smoke the cigar features the likeness of Don Benigno on the band. However, at a quick glance he also looks like the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. I’ll admit it’s a reach but driving in to work this morning, the correlation between the parties involved popped into my head and here we are. The brand Don Benigno was created 17 years ago in Costa Rica but the man […]
