At Two Guys Smoke Shop’s Anniversary Party in 2021, Carson & Tony Serino showed up with some cigars that they handed out to myself and David Garofalo. While I am sure others got samples I only witnessed this exchange. Dave was instantly in love with Elenor Rose. It’s a cigar that he has talked about almost non-stop for a year. The name Elenor Rose is multi-faceted: a tribute to the ultra-fine Ecuador Rosado wrapper, a rose to signify the love for the cigar industry, as well as musical underpinnings throughout the branding that carries a special significance within the Serino family.
The cigars are part of Serino Cigar company which is self described as a boutique cigar company. Headed up by father and son duo, Anthony and Carson Serino, they are committed to delivering world-class cigars. Serino Cigar Co. prioritizes working with family-owned farms in the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua to obtain the finest tobacco for unique, small-batch productions.
Cigar Review: Elenor Rose
Wrapper: Ecuador Rosado
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua, Peru and USA (Pennsylvania)
Size: 5.75 x 54
Vitola: Revolver (Toro)
The Look: Packaged in 10 count bundles wrapped in brown paper with a sticker denoting Elenor Rose the cigars only recently got boxes for display purposes in cigar shops. The packaging doesn’t do the cigar justice as the brown paper hides the gorgeous oily Rosado wrapper grown in Ecuador. The cigar is well packed with no voids of tobacco and a slightly above average weight for its size. The Revolver size is the only one to feature a small pigtail on the cap.
The Notes: The cold draw serves up notes of honey, tobacco, and a subtle earth with a touch of mocha from the foot. The slow burning cigar offers up notes of honey, white pepper and rich chocolate to begin. As the cigar progresses the chocolate notes become dominant with nuances of graham cracker, subtle cherry and continued nuances of honey.
The Finish: If you are a fan of The Cigar Authority podcast or know David Garofalo personally you would be well aware of his penchant for mild cigars. The fact that is likes this cigar as much as he does is an anomaly. Medium to Medium-Full in strength, the cigar offers a wonderfully robust flavor profile with a nice amount of complexity. It’s a cigar that’s easy to become enamored with and has quickly become a favorite.
