This past week we had Jack Torano on The Cigar Authority where we got to catch up with him and see how things are going during his first year with the company. On the show we spoke about their new national advertising campaign coming soon as well as what the future for the brand will hold.
We also smoked the first cigar of The Cigar Authority Care Package for the month of December on the show.

The Look: The Colorado Criollo wrapper on this cigar looks absolutely gorgeous. It feels like fine sand paper under the fingers and has a significant amount of oils visible. In the hand the cigar is firm, with no soft spots and a well packed foot. The Roberto Duran badge of blue with silver writing works well on the cocoa colored wrapper. In the hand the cigar is slightly spongy at the foot and it it appears to be well packed with an above average weight for the size.
The Draw: The cold draw stops me in my tracks with an incredible sweetness that borders on raisins and honey while the aroma off of the foot is earthy with a touch of raisins. Once the cigar is toasted there is a slight pepper through the nose and a sweetness on the palate.
Moving into the first third of the cigar, the spice continues with an addition of wood notes and some hints of vanilla and nuts. I’ve always identified a nutty flavor profile with a Criollo wrapper so this doesn’t surprise me nor does the addition of coffee as the first third comes to a close.
In the second third of the cigar some citrus notes begin to develop and the cigar became rich with buttered toast notes and continued nuts. The pepper which remains through the nose is slightly toned down from the first third of the cigar.
As we enter the last third of the cigar, some charred wood notes become the focal point and we see the pepper notes return through the nose. As the smoke comes to a close there is a nice sweetness on the finish.
The Burn: While the Roberto Duran Signature won’t win any beauty awards when it comes to the burn it never got out of hand, and it did stay lit from start to finish. The medium gray ash had some flake to it but held on for each third and the cigar had a perfect draw.
The Finish: The Roberto Duran served up a myriad of flavors making it one of the most complex cigars on the market today. These are cigar worthy of space in your humidor across any of their portfolio. We have review the Azan Burgundy and Azan White Premium in the past so be sure to check out those reviews as well.
