Back in early 2000, Classic Cigars came to market and have been a mainstay in the industry since its inception. Cigar Review: Classic Cuban
Country of Origin: Dominican Republic
Wrapper: Habano
Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: Dominican Republic
Length: 5″
Ring Gauge: 50
Vitola: Robusto
Cutter: Lotus Jaws
Lighter: Veritgo Renegade
The Look: Packaged in wooden cabinet style boxes, the Classic Cuban features a brown and gold band with the Classic cigar logo that utilizes a font that reminds me of a softball jersey. In the hand the cigar is soft and the foot looks a little under-filled. The wrapper is flawless however and seamlessly rolled.
The Notes: Once the cigar is clipped the cold draw is a little minty, with hints of earth. The notes are intriguing and when I decided to review Classic today, Cigar Authority listener Shawn Rogers told me enjoys the Cuban the most of all the Classic smokes. Off the foot of the cigar there are notes of hay and cedar much like the inside of a barn on a warm summer day.
Once the cigar is lit I am impressed with how smooth it is especially given the price of the stick. There are notes of earth, walnuts and a touch of cedar. On the retrohale the walnuts are enhanced with only the slightest amount of spice present.
In the second third of the cigar the earthy components become dominant with cedar on the finish. Through the nose some spice continues to build and the nutty notes of walnut remain especially on the finish.
As we conclude our Classic Cuban robusto the cigar continues the course with notes of hay, cedar and nuts with the latter amplified on the retrohale.
The Burn: The Classic Cuban has an even burn line with a fairly thin combustion line. The draw is fluid with a marble color ash that holds firm with little to no flake. The cigar remained lit from first light to last puff.
The Finish: If you smoke as much as I do (3-6 cigars a day), you can’t always afford to smoke cigars with a high price tag. Just because you can’t smoke the expensive items doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice quality. The Classic Cuban is a cigar to enjoy with some coffee while doing some yard work or when you want to reduce your cost while providing the much-needed relaxation.
