My Father El Centurion H2KCT Corona Cigar Review

This morning I was talking to someone in the store about Connecticut cigars. He was going around the store with me and asking about specific cigars about Connecticut wrappers. Of course we got into the conversation about shade wrappers and broadleaf wrappers, and I think I totally confused him when I mentioned Connecticut is sometimes grown in Ecuador. His mind was blown and he wanted to try different cigars with different degrees of Connecticut. Which leads us this hybrid that I wound up grabbing for myself.

The cigar  was released in 2015 features a Habano 2000 seed grown in the Connecticut River Valley for the first time. The story goes that on a trip to the state, Jaime Garcia reached out to one of the farms the company works with and decided to attempt to grow the seed for the first time in the state and the result was successful which led to the release.

The Look: Although you can’t tell from looking at the cigar there are actually two bands with the primary being the El Centurion and the secondary denoting H2KCT. The foot of the cigar has an orange ribbon protecting it. There are some prominent veins on this box pressed cigar that has some visible oils and a hefty weight.

The Notes: The cold draw of the cigar has notes that remind me of saltines, along with some spices. The foot of the cigar has similar notes with paprika and cedar and once the cigar is lit you are met with notes of black pepper that I call that Pepin spice.

As the spice tones down the cigar develops notes of vanilla with a touch of wheat that really appears on the finish. The wheat component is also enjoyable on the aroma of the cigar that also has a peppery retrohale.

The second third of the cigar the El Centurion see the notes of wheat become the primary flavor profile as the pepper kicks things up a notch on the retrohale. The long finish of the cigar also introduces a touch of licorice.

The last third sees the wheat notes continue with a touch of licorice especially on the finish. The aroma of the cigar picks up some 2

The Finish: The cigar was pretty much straight forward from first light to last puff. There weren’t many changes, but it was an enjoyable cigar. Something that often gets over looked in the My Father portfolio, and is worthy of a visit from time to time.
