Last month, the FDA issued a press release that changed the date product could stay on the shelves that was not FDA approved. The date changed from August 8, 2018 to August 8th, 2021. In that press release was language that stated, “Under expected revised timelines, applications for newly-regulated combustible products, such as cigars, pipe tobacco and hookah tobacco, would be submitted by Aug. 8, 2021.”
In an email with the FDA today a Food & Drug Administatrion employee stated, that the August 8, 2021 date, “specifies tobacco product review applications, not the registration of establishment and submission of a product listing.” The employee went on to ad, “There has been no official announcement on the registration and product listing requirement changing from the current date of September 30, 2017.”
This means that companies still need to fulfill registration and product listing requirements by the end of September. The Cigar Authority will report further if anything should change.
