Intemperance BA XXI Avarice Cigar Review

It’s RoMaCraft weekend at The Cigar Authority as we welcome Skip Martin & Mike Rosales to the VODCast/Webcast/Podcast this weekend where we will be broadcasting live from Studio 21 Podcast Cafe above Two Guys Smoke Shop in Salem, NH on the United Podcast Network. The Intemperance has a historic story attached to it and according to the RoMaCraft website,

The Look: The Intemperance from RoMaCraft comes packaged in cabinet style boxes with a slide top lid. Inside the cigars are packaged in cello and lined up in 4 rows of 6 cigars. The Brazilian Arapirace wrapper which is amongst my personal favorite is not only flawless, but it seamlessly applied. Looking at the foot of the cigar the wrapper is recessed about an 1/8th of an inch giving the cigar a slight shaggy foot appearance. In the hand the cigar is firm, and the foot is well packed.

The Notes: The cold draw of the Arapiraca wrapped Intemperance BA XXI has some notes of apricots, coffee and a touch of chocolate. The aroma off the foot and wrapper has an abundance of coffee beans and cedar with a hint of plum.

Once the cigar is toasted and lit, it provides initial notes of chocolate and hearty espresso. In the background there is a subtle leather and wood component, with the wood being enhanced on the retrohale which also contains some black pepper. The finish is moderate in length at this point of the cigar and it comes off as very well-balanced.

Moving into the second third of the Avarice, the leather notes become dominant, with a hint of coffee thrown into the mix as well. At the halfway point, notes of chocolate emerge once again and the cigar becomes very creamy. In the background there are subtle nuance of coffee, wood and earth. The retrohale sees a subtle apricot note return with hints of red pepper. The finish of the cigar becomes longer.

The final third of the Intemperance sees coffee notes become dominant as the sweetness of the second half slides into the background. There are some wood and leather notes on the finish which is moderate in length. The retrohale continues to offer hints of red pepper and an abundance of cedar notes.

The Finish: The Avarice from RoMa Craft is a lesson in strength and complexity and how one doesn’t need to sacrifice the other. Intemperance BA XXI is a cigar that delivers both with its rich flavors and strength to keep seasoned cigar smokers with a penchant for stronger cigars engaged. These are definitely box worthy and deserving of a spot in your regular rotation.
