The Bernalillo County Housing Authority in New Mexico is going smoke free. The county housing department manages 75 public housing units including 54 units for the elderly and 21 for the elderly. The center of the county is Albuquerque.
In order to sign a lease potential residents have to sign a nonsmoking clause before moving into or renewing a lease to live in the public housing apartments.
The authority has constructed designated smoking areas on the recently renovated grounds.
Bernalillo County is home to 673,000 residents over 1,169 square miles and was founded in 1852.
