In a state with strong tobacco ties, the Kentucky House has passed a statewide smoking ban in public buildings and most workplaces.
The lawmakers debate individuals’ rights versus public health concerns. The Democrat led House passed the measure with a 51-46 vote.
The proposal now moves to the Republican controlled Senate where according to Senate Majority Leader Damon Thayer has state there is not much sentiment to pass a smoking ban.
Kentucky is home to 4.4 million residents over 40,409 square miles and became a state in 1792.
