Was looking for a short smoke today due to a pending Dr appoint with the Gastroenterologist. Today’s review was pushed back until tomorrow at 2pm after the show so I needed to get one up today. Thus we reached for the Mi Querida Pequeno Pequeno from Steve Saka’s Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust. The brand name translates to My Mistress while the size translates to Little Little.
Cigar Review: Mi Querida Pequeno Pequeno
Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Length: 4
Ring Gauge: 44
Size: Pequeno Pequeno (Petit Corona)
The Look: Packaged in wooden boxes the cigars are laid out in two rows of ten. The dark Broadleaf wrapper has some oils present and a few noticeable veins. The cigar features a band of blue and gold, with the blue having a subtle texture on it creating a different look. In the hand the Mi Querida has a nice weight to it and no soft spots with a well packed foot.
The Notes: The cold draw of the little Mi Querida called Pequeno Pequeno has an abundance of cinnamon with hints of earth and cedar. The cinnamon is more pronounced on this size then any of the other sizes in the line. The aroma off the foot and wrapper are pretty non-existent and due to the size of the cigar we will break it up into two halves.
Once the cigar is lit the initial note is cinnamon but its quickly joined by some subtle leather notes and a nuttiness that reminds me of pistachio. The cigar is exceptionally smooth with some sweetness on the retrohale and a moderate to long finish.
In the second half of the cigar the cinnamon is more of an afterthought as the nutty notes of pistachio become dominant with a leathery finish. There is a subtle wood component to the aroma and there is pepper on the retrohale.
The Finish: I’ve had a few people tell me that this is their favorite size of Mi Querida. Having now smoked a few for myself I can see why. Its smooth and flavorful and those flavors are most pronounced in this size making it a home run.
