The biggest rumor at the trade show is that General Cigar has acquired or is in the process of acquiring EPC Cigars. The story going around the show was that Ernesto Perez Carrillo III didn’t want to be a part of the cigar industry and that his father Ernesto Perez Carrillo is being brought back into the mix at General. When asked about this rumor his response was, “That would be nice, wouldn’t it?” With Gianini and Carrillo working together recently on Re+United this seems like something that will happen sooner rather than later.
Also another rumor going around the trade show floor had people asking if General acquiring Oliva Cigar. The source of this rumor seems to be based on General making the new Nub Cafe line. We believe this one to just be a rumor and will be shocked if it turns out to be true.
