The US Patent and Trademark Office has sent notice to Santa Cruz cigars, the makers of Gran Habano. The Trademark office states that Gran Habano has mislead the public via use of the word Habano. In the document they believe that the company is attempting to mislead the public into believing they are selling cigars from Cuba.
Santa Clara which utilizes tobacco grown in Honduras and Nicaragua is fighting this accusation which was obviously put into place by someone without knowledge of the tobacco industry.
More details as they become available.
