The town of Portsmouth, Rhode Island will look into banning smoking on all town beaches, sports field and parks. The move would follow ordinances passed by Newport and Middletown earlier this year. Town Councilman David M. Gleason asked for the smoking ban to be placed on the agenda at the August 24, 2015 meeting following the request in February by a single resident and Clean Ocean Access a special interest group in April. Like Newport and Middletown […]
According to the JC Newman website, “In 1937, J.C. Newman launched Brick House; a true Cuban puro cigar made with the finest Havana tobaccos. To honor his family and heritage, J.C. modeled the Brick House label after his childhood home – the only brick house in their small, Hungarian village. Locals and visitors would gather at the house nightly to eat, drink, smoke and enjoy each other’s company. But with the Cuban embargo came the […]
The City Council of Manhattan Beach which banned smoking throughout the city last year, is now looking to extend that ban. The new measures discussed this week would include a smoking ban in multi-family housing units and would regulate the sale of tobacco via retail licensing. Yesterday, a California Senate panel approved a package of six anti-tobacco bills. While most of them pertain to e-cigarettes, one of them did revive the once defeated proposal to raise the tobacco age to 21. The original measure to raise the tobacco age stalled in the legislature but was revived for this special session healthcare and was approved by the new Senate Committee on Public Health and Developmental Services. While the measure passed in the […]
This one is almost too insane to be true, as the Missouri Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association has filed an initiative to raise tobacco taxes that include a 50% increase on other tobacco products (cigars). The measure comes from a group that once fought to keep the state’s tax as one of the lowest in the nation. The measure which comes in less than other proposals recently filed with the state. If passed one […]
The cigar that was released at the 2015 IPCPR has shipped to retailers and while we did a pre-release review a little over a month ago we decided to reach into the box on the shelves at Two Guys Smoke Shop and review one of the retail cigars that features a wrapper never seen before on a cigar. The My Father El Centurion H2KCT features a Habano 2000 seed grown in the Connecticut River Valley […]

Today’s review comes at the request of a reader from Michigan who contacted me via Twitter. While the Davidoff Maduro is a cigar I smoke from time to time, it is one that has yet to be reviewed on the website. Being a “blogger” I always tend to smoke what is new for review, and often neglect the staples of the humidor. According to the Davidoff website, “The Maduro series presents intense yet smooth aromas […]
Today, the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly will hold a hearing on a proposed tobacco tax and cast their first vote before the meeting comes to a close. The tobacco tax proposal is a whopping $3.00 per pack on cigarettes, but more importantly there is a 75% wholesale tax on other tobacco products. The proposed tobacco tax was passed by a 4-3 vote on whether or not to draft the proposal. If the official proposal is […]
The City Council in Astoria, Oregon voted 4-1 to move ahead with a vote that would ban smoking and the use of tobacco in parks. The city still has to determine where the money will come from to install no smoking signs that will cost between $2,500 and $6,750 as Clatsop County will […]
