Yesterday, the “Board of Chosen Freeholders” voted to approve an ordinance that now makes Essex County’s 33 parks smoke free. The measure which was pushed by the “Global Advisors on Smokefree Policy” advised the board throughout the drafting process. Essex County which is home to Newark joins Burlington, Camden, Hudson, Passaic, Somerset and Union as counties that have passed a smoke free parks law. Earlier this week the city of Rockville, Maryland saw the City Council vote 5-0 to ban smoking in the city owned plaza in the middle of Rockville Town Square as well as city parks which includes Red Gate Golf Course that is owned by the city. The City Council of Woodstock, Illinois will vote on an ordinance today that would ban cigars, cigarettes, pipes and e-cigarettes from Woodstock’s Park in the Square.
