1/19/2015: The City Council of Tybee Island in Georgia is moving forward with a potential smoking ban what will prohibit smokers from lighting up on the beach. City Councilman, Rob Callahan proposed the measure after the island completed sand placements on the beaches. Ireland has become the second country in the world to pass a plain packaging law that is mandatory for tobacco products. Legal action from the tobacco industry is expected to follow. Australia passed a similar measure in 2012. Under Ireland’s new rules, all branding, logos, coloring will be banned off of packaging. The new packaging will be uniform with graphic health warnings.
