Back in June, Steve Saka announced a line extension fro Todos Las Dias in the form of Mas Fuerte. The name Mas Fuerte translates to stronger, but the question is does the cigar ramp things up enough to deserve the name. Today we look at this Thick Lonsdale and answer that question on The Cigar Authority.
Cigar Review: Todos Las Dias Mas Fuerte
Wrapper:Nicaraguan Sungrown Criollo
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Length: 6″
Ring Gauge: 46
Size: Thick Lonsdale
The Look: Like the rest of the Todos Las Dias line the cigars are packaged in 10 count cedar boxes. What sets it apart is the addition of a red stick denoting “Mas Fuerte” in addition to the cigar featuring a pig-tail cap, the only cigar in the line to have one. The cigar features dual band utilizing colors of silver and black. The primary band denotes TDL in a diamond while the foot denotes Todos Las Dias. The dark wrapper of the cigar has some subtle tooth to it, a nice amount of oil with a velvet like feel under the fingers.
The Notes: The cold draw has a subtle cream to it with hints of cedar and a subtle pepper. The foot of the cigar has an abundance of cedar with hints of cream soda, specifically of the Dr. Brown’s variety. Once the cigar is lit the draw is so much better than the rest of the line, but I will get to that in the section we call, “The Finish.”
Moving into the first third of this Thick Lonsdale there does appear to be some more upfront notes of spice, specifically red pepper. As we move into the first third the pepper slides into the background some notes of rich mocha begin to emerge with a subtle cedar present as well. The retrohale of the cigar serves up pepper and hints of Turkish coffee.
Moving on to the second third I am really impressed by the burn of this cigar that has an ultra thin combustion line and a sold light-colored ash. The chocolate aspect of mocha has left, but the coffee aspect remain in the form of the aforementioned Turkish coffee which is stronger and grittier then your regular coffee. There is a subtle cream like finish to the cigar and an aroma that reminds of me of cigars from days gone by as cliche as that sounds.
As we close out the Mas Fuerte the cigar is at its strongest point. There is continue notes of Turkish coffee, earth, cedar and a subtle wasabi encrusted nuttiness. The retrohale has a lot of eye watering white pepper notes and while the intoxicating aroma is still present it isn’t as vibrant as the second third of this cigar from Steve Saka’s Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust.
The Finish: When you first light up the Todos Las Dias it doesn’t seem as strong as the other vitolas in the line. However as you get to the last third of the sucker you feel as if you were hit by a sucker punch and it is as the point the cigar lives up to the name. As far as the draw which I alluded to, I find the other sizes to be thick and syrupy while smoking, while the Mas Fuerte is more traditional and free-flowing. It isn’t a loose draw by any sense of the imagination, but it is more in my comfort zone. So much so I had to mention it in the review. For that reason alone this would be my favorite in the line, but the flavors deliver an experience that make this cigar truly stand out.
