The Upsetters Para Al Sapo comes to us from Nicholas Melillo’s Foundation Company. Now granted, not everyone loves a green cigar, but this one doubles down as it is also an infused cigar that smells like pachouli as it sits on my desk.
Cigar: The Upsetters
Wrapper: Candela
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua, Jamaica
Length: 4.5
Ring Gauge: 38/54
Size: Para Al Sapo
The Look: The Upsetters comes in a black box the reminds of Acid Cigars. This isn’t shocking as Nicholas Melillo worked for Drew Estate, home of Acid Cigars. The Upsetters is available in different wrappers, and different box counts. The Para Al Sapo is a figurado shaped cigar with a band featuring the silhouette of Rastafarian holding an AK-47 or similar firearm.
The Notes: While normally I am not a fan of infused cigars, I must admit I love the cold draw of this cigar which reminds me of fun-dip or pixie sticks, specifically the grape flavor. The aroma off the foot of the cigar is reminiscent of the white stick from fun-dip.
Once the cigar is lit a lot of sweetness is present, and the infusion isn’t as in your face as I remember Acid being, so I might need to revisit one. What is surprising is how much I don’t mind this cigar, those around me are looking at me wondering why I am smoking one. Let’s face it, Upsetters is not a traditionalist cigar.
Outside of the sweetness the cigar does have a distinct earthy taste to it, with a woodsy finish. But trying to find a note to hang your hat on is difficult at best as the sweetness of the infusion is extremely dominant.
The Finish: I’m not going to give this cigar a rating because if you love cigars that are infused, you will love Upsetters, if you are a traditionalist then you probably won’t like anything Upsetters has to offer. I will say however that I fall strongly in the traditionalist category, but I was intrigued enough to smoke this one down to the band.
