3Leaf Azalea Toro Cigar Review

3Leaf Azalea Toro bring a fresh and personal touch to the premium cigar world, crafted by industry veteran Erik Wentworth and his longtime collaborator Jim Ferreira. The Azalea Toro features a San Andrés Maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan fillers. Each 10-count box is made even more special with hand-drawn band and box art created by Wentworth and Ferreira’s daughters, ages 9, 11, and 12—a true family collaboration.

The Azalea presents a dark brown, smooth, and oily San Andrés wrapper with prominent veins and a dense, well-packed feel. There were a couple of small blemishes noticeable on the wrapper, but overall, the construction looked solid and rustic.

The opening third offers mild flavors of oak and mellow, mouth-drying leather with a light cedar retrohale. A subtle creaminess reminiscent of fresh mozzarella emerges, along with touches of black olive, herbal and floral notes. There’s an undercurrent of salt and chalkiness, balanced by a gentle sweetness of molasses and sourdough bread. Bran flakes without milk and a faint hint of peppermint add complexity to this first stage.

As the cigar transitions, the leather fades almost entirely, giving way to graham cracker sweetness and a touch of cinnamon. Mineral and black tea notes appear, supported by a more pronounced cedar and light oak. A mild black pepper note enters the mix, while the aroma turns distinctly nostalgic—rich with the scent of hot cocoa, like smoking a cup of Nestlé’s hot chocolate.

The strength builds slightly in the final portion. Earthy notes sharpen and mingle with milk chocolate, creating a creamy, grounded profile. Hints of honey, graham cracker, and dark cherry appear alongside white pepper. The leather returns for a brief encore, while subtle mushroom and vegetal notes linger in the background, rounding out the experience.

The 3Leaf Azalea Toro is an enjoyable and personal cigar, offering mellow yet engaging flavors with a firm draw and satisfying smoke output. While the flavor transitions are pleasant and balanced, construction issues during the smoke required some attention, which ultimately affected the overall score. Still, it stands out for its creativity, heart, and approachable flavor profile.
