Micallef Purple

Micallef Purple Toro Cigar Review

The Micallef Purple Toro is the latest installment in the Micallef Color Series, debuting in April 2025. A symbolic blend that marries the best of the Micallef Red and Blue (appropriately as—red and blue colors make purple), this cigar brings together a San Andrés Sumatra wrapper, a Broadleaf binder, and a filler mix of Nicaraguan, Dominican, and Mexican tobaccos.

From the outset, the presentation is elegant. The wrapper is a milk chocolate shade with a subtle oily sheen, tight seams, and no prominent veins. It’s smooth to the touch and well-packed, suggesting solid construction before the first light.

The first third starts off smooth and mellow, delivering flavors of light earth, wood, and a gentle spice. Notes of sweet grass and hay give it a fresh, natural profile, while a saltiness builds alongside hints of black pepper and cedar. A faint vanilla sweetness lingers on the finish, adding depth.

Moving into the second third, the cigar opens up. Pepper and spice continue to develop, and the vanilla sweetness becomes more pronounced. A surprise twist comes in the form of a bright citrus note that lifts the flavor profile, making it more dynamic. Baking spices and a touch of cayenne pepper round out this segment with complexity and warmth.

The final third closes strong, with cinnamon spice, cedar wood, and lingering citrus tying together the experience. A sweet baking spice character, with hints of fresh bread, emerges near the end, creating a rich, satisfying finish.

Overall, the Micallef Purple Toro is a standout with excellent construction and consistency of flavor. Even those who typically don’t favor this flavor profile acknowledged its superb performance. The burn was razor sharp, requiring no touch-ups, and the flavors remained stable and evolving throughout. STARS Reviewers noted a range of strength perceptions—from a mild-to-medium smoke to what some considered a bold, full-bodied powerhouse. A memorable smoke that strikes a balance between boldness and finesse, and one that many would gladly revisit. (One STAR correctly guessed this was the Micallef Purple, well done!!)
