Proposal To Ban Smoking In Lafayette, LA Bars Fails

In May, the Lafayette City Council defeated a measure to ban smoking in all bars by a 5-4 margin. However, earlier this month members of the council reached a compromise that would only ban smoking in bars with live music. That measure was set to be vote on come September 1st. Despite being defeated a few months ago, the state of Pennsylvania a 40% tobacco take is on the table one again as 15 Democrats proposed S.B 13. The new bill would raise a number of taxes including a tax on cigars for the first time. Anchorage, AK Looks To Ban Tobacco Products In Town Square

The city of Anchorage, Alaska is looking to clean up town square and in doing so they have proposed a new ordinance that would prohibit vaping, cigarettes, cigars, pipes and “already illegal drugs” in the area. The smoking ban would include the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts property along with the surrounding walkways. California Bill Would Allow Local Taxes on Tobacco

In California, public enemy number one in the cigar community is Senator Mike McGuire (D-Healdsburg) who has proposed a package of bills that was introduced during the extraordinary session to fight tobacco use and increase the overall health of California. Portsmouth, RI Smoking Ban Looming

The town of Portsmouth, Rhode Island will look into banning smoking on all town beaches, sports field and parks. The move would follow ordinances passed by Newport and Middletown earlier this year. Manhattan Beach, CA Poised To Extend Smoking Ban

The City Council of Manhattan Beach which banned smoking throughout the city last year, is now looking to extend that ban.
