In May, the Lafayette City Council defeated a measure to ban smoking in all bars by a 5-4 margin. However, earlier this month members of the council reached a compromise that would only ban smoking in bars with live music. That measure was set to be vote on come September 1st. The city of Anchorage, Alaska is looking to clean up town square and in doing so they have proposed a new ordinance that would prohibit vaping, cigarettes, cigars, pipes and “already illegal drugs” in the area. The smoking ban would include the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts property along with the surrounding walkways. The new measures discussed this week would include a smoking ban in multi-family housing units and would regulate the sale of tobacco via retail licensing.
