Cigar Review: Camacho Diploma Special Selection
Wrapper: Original Corojo (Honduras)
Binder: Original Corojo (Honduras)
Filler: Original Corojo (Honduras)
Length: 6″
Ring: 48/54/48
Size: 11/18 (Figurado)
The Look: Packaged in a high gloss blue boxes, the cigars are laid out in an interesting pattern with each stick housed in it’s own coffin. Once again the boxes are fabricated, which has me wishing they would use a pure cedar coffin. The cigars are wrapper in cello, and feature a silver and blue band. The Corojo wrapper has a nice amount of oils present and a well packed foot.
The Notes: The cold draw is loaded with black pepper and it is salty as well. The wrapper has a nice sweetness to it that borders on vanilla and the foot of the cigar serves up a touch of cedar. Once we light the the cigar there is a lot going on with notes of cedar, cream and pepper right the first puff.
The first third continues down the path laid out by the cold draw with notes of pepper, cream and cedar and around the one inch mark, cedar becomes he dominant note with hints of oats, wheat and peppercorn. The retrohale is smooth and woodsy with pepper serving as an afterthought.
The second third sees the earthy notes dominate with hints of wheat and hay. There is some lingering cedar in the background, with notes of peppercorn on the aroma and retrohale. The rather short finish is cedar and the slightest wisp of oak.
As the Camacho Diploma Special Selection comes to a close, so salty notes begin to emerge mimicking the cold draw. The finish of the cigar is longer as the cigar comes to close while the retorhale serves up cedar and peppercorns.
The Finish: The Camacho Diploma 11/18 is an enjoyable cigar and the size is a nice feel of nostalgia for those who remember when the size was part of the normal catalog. It’s flavorful with a medium-plus strength profile. It’s a must have for fans of the brand in the box format, and a great representation for those who haven’t tried it.
