As much as Camacho has undergone a serious rebranding, the Camacho Liberty has remained on point with the original. With each cigar packed in an individually numbered coffin, and 20 count humidor style boxes the Liberty is for me the crown jewel of limited edition cigars right up there with another cigar that is due to arrive next week in terms of packaging.
This year the Camacho Liberty 2015 is a Nicaraguan puro with a Corojo for the first time in the history of the line which made its debut in 2001. The cigar which feature a Corojo wrapper is limited to 40,000 cigars today we smoke cigar number 2,102.

The Look: The cigar is wrapped in tissue paper inside the wood coffin and features a gorgeous red, white and blue cigar band with the Liberty Bell and 2015 on the front. The side of the band notes, Camacho – Liberty Series – Limited Edition – Hand Built in Honduras. The classic Camacho 11/18 figurado is oily and rolled to perfection. There is one soft spot on my review cigar about halfway up and the foot I wish was a little more dense.
The Notes: The Camacho Liberty year after year is hands down my favorite aroma of any cigar before it is lit. The abundant cedar has a vanilla like sweetness as well and despite other cigars coming in a coffin it is never anything like the Camacho Liberty. The cold draw of the cigar has a slight sweetness, wood and a dark berry note.
Once the cigar is lit the first note is a slight raspberry with cedar and a subtle spice through the nose and on the palate. Progressing through the first third of the cigar there is a note that tastes like a hard pretzel with a touch of mustard, elements of leather and continued cedar.
As we enter the second third of the cigar; the ash drops on to my keyboard and the cedar notes become dominant enveloping the palate. There is a slight vanilla like sweetness and a building up of black pepper through the nose. The aroma of cedar is intoxicating.
The last third of the cigar sees the black pepper notes increase through the sinus passages as well as on the palate while notes of cedar remain strong and a slight spicy mustard left over from the previous third. The finish is moderate in length and inviting me back to smoke another.
The Burn: I’ll be honest I was a bit worried with the soft spot that seems common on the 11/18 and the slightly porous foot. However neither of these altered how the cigar smokes. Once the foot was lit the slightly asymmetrical burn evened out and revealed a firm white ash that held for a third at a time. The fluid draw produced average amounts of smoke, and the cigar burned cool. No touch ups or relights were needed as the cigar remained lit throughout.
The Finish: When I first lit up the Camacho Liberty 2015 and was greeted with that aroma that defines the cigar I knew where I was. While it might not go down as the best Liberty to date the cigar progresses into one that could be mentioned in the same breath. Flavorful with a wonderful aroma, the Camacho Liberty is a cigar that deserves a spot in your humidor.
