With the release today of the CroMagnon Firecracker from RoMaCraft cigars things have been a little crazy so we opted go back to last year and revist the LFD Firecracker.
The Firecracker was originally made by My Father Cigar Company, before being moved to another factory. Following last year’s Blind Taste Test in which La Flor Dominicana won by a landslide, Two Guys Smoke Shop owner David Garofalo approached La Flor Dominicana to make a limited edition LFD version as a shop exclusive for Two Guys Smoke Shop.
According to Litto Gomez, “When Dave asked us to make a cigar named The Firecracker, the mission was very clear. It is everything you’d expect it to be. Double Ligero with a kick.” The source of the kick was explained by Jonathan Carney who serves as the Vice President of Sales for La Flor Dominicana, “With the unique nature and the size of this cigar it allowed us to utilize some more potent ligero creating a blend that is truly a firecracker of a cigar.”
“Strap yourself in, this is going to be powerful,” said David Garofalo, owner of Two Guys Smoke Shop who added, “I am excited to work with La Flor Dominicana on this project. It’s going to be explosive.”
Just how explosive, let’s see?

The Look: Dubbed the original cigar with a fiuse, the La Flor Dominican Firecracker comes in at 3.25″ slightly larger than the 3″ expected in the press release and it also comes packaged in a box of 25. The shaggy foot cigar is glistening with oils in a flawlessly rolled stick with a perfect looking wrapper. In the hand the cigar has a heftier weight then you would expect for a cigar of this size.
The Notes: The cold draw of the La Flor Dominicana Firecracker has some crushed red pepper that you can feel on the lips. There is also a slight mocha present as well and the two work well together. The aroma off the closed foot is reminiscent of manure that is confirmed by my coworker Ed. I have been told this is the ultimate compliment to a tobacco grower.
Once the cigar there some bold spices that really take hold and the retrohale is definitely eye watering, but the great thing is how the spice doesn’t linger. As the cigar progresses it’s too small to break down into thirds but the first half mellows out some spice wise, but not in strength. There are notes of nuts, and mocha before the spice ramps back up some.
In the second third of the LFD Firecracker the spice remains with some notes of wood and earth. The red pepper isn’t as defined in the second half of the cigar as the strength really kicks it up a notch. The finish is short and I smoke this cigar til I just can’t hold it anymore and the pepper tingles my nostrils.
The Burn: With a closed foot one has to make sure to really get a good light so it burns even and true. As the cigar progressed the burn line got smaller and smaller as shown in the final picture. The ash had a slight flake to it from the shaggy foot and held for the first half of the cigar.
The Finish: While the cigar is based on the Double Ligero blend there is definitely some added strength from the special ligero used as referenced by Jonathan Carney. It’s like smoking a Double Ligero that is on steroids, and the cigar is so good that I just couldn’t put down. Factor in the price and the limited amount of the Firecracker produced and a box purchase is a no brainer.
