This year, La Flor Dominicana let the members of the TAA vote on the cigar that would be known as the TAA 47. Store owners were given three vitals of the same blend to choose from at the TAA which took place in April at Casa de Campo in La Romana, Dominican Republic.
Of the three vitolas; 5.5 x 52 robusto, 6.5 x 54 box-pressed torpedo and 6 x 60 the winning size was 5.5 x 52. I for one am happy it wasn’t a 6 x 60 and the cigars are expected to ship the end of the month.

The Look: The band utilized on the TAA is of different coloring then one would expect from the company headed by Litto Gomez. Black and Gold in color with LFD front and center the cigar is joined by a secondary band with the TAA Cigar Store Indian and 47th on one side and TAA on the other. The cigar has one vain of note that was present on all my samples, though it doesn’t detract from the chocolate coloring of the beautiful wrapper which has a nice amount of oils present. In the hand the cigar is firm with no soft spots and the foot of the cigar reveals some darker tobacco in the center.
The Notes: The LFD TAA 47th has a well definite cocoa not the prelight draw with some earthy components as well. The aroma coming off the wrapper of the unlit cigar is that of mocha while the foot has an abundance of cedar. After taking a few more inhales of the mocha from the wrapper its time to toast the cigar.
Once the cigar is lit there is a burst of wasabi and as it subsides there is a subtle saltines like note with hints of earth and nuts. The long finish has some sweetness on the end that borders on milk chocolate.
In the second third of the cigar leather develops but there is still some lingering sweetness at the end of the very long finish. At the halfway point the nutty notes which remind me of pistachio and cashews. The finish of the cigar isn’t as long as prior to the half way point.
In the last third of the cigar notes of coffee beans develop and the wasabi through the nose experienced when first li has returned. The finish which is moderate in length is earthy with some hints of leather.
The Burn: The La Flor Dominicana TAA 47 had a draw that could be defined as perfection. The cigar produced a nice volume of smoke on each and every pull as the cigar remain lit throughout. The razor-sharp burn line reveal a light color ash that held on for about a third of the cigar at a time.
The Finish: I loved the sweetness of the wrapper and the cigar on the cold draw and it was nice to see some of that transition to the long finish. The cigar which has a great flavor profile is different from many LFD smokes on the market while remaining true to the cause. All in all, in my mind this is what a TAA Limited Edition should be, and part of me is hoping it becomes a regular production for the brand.
