Crowned Heads Broadway Toro Review

Crowned Heads has always had a flair for weaving place and story into their blends, and the Broadway Toro is no exception. While its name may conjure thoughts of New York’s theater lights, this cigar is firmly rooted in Nashville’s Broadway, the lively home turf of Crowned Heads. Built around a hearty Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper with a Jalapa binder and fillers from Estelí, Jalapa, and Ometepe, this cigar promises complexity before the first draw.

The appearance sets the stage beautifully. The wrapper is dark brown, toothy, and oily, with visible seams and veins that give it a rustic yet inviting look. It feels dense in the hand, firmly packed, and unmistakably broadleaf in character.

The first third opens with a rush of sweetness layered over notes of dark rye bread and meaty steak tones. Cocoa, dried fruit jam, and a touch of coffee milk bring depth, while pepper, lemon zest, and baking spice add brightness. A surprising salty nuance creeps in, reminding me of ocean water—an unusual but intriguing dimension that keeps you engaged.

In the second third, the profile becomes richer and creamier. Cinnamon and dates appear alongside lingering retrohales that soften yet maintain presence. Cocoa returns, now mingled with a decadent coconut cream pie character, while cedar, dried fruit, and a consistent underlying sweetness carry the flavors forward. Coffee remains a steady companion, grounding the sweeter notes.

The final third shifts into darker territory. Coffee intensifies into espresso, with hints of molasses and graham cracker dusted in white pepper. The cayenne pepper rises sharply here, kicking with intensity yet balanced by the return of dark chocolate. A faint touch of celery salt rounds out the finish, adding an unexpected savory edge.

Overall, the Broadway Toro is a dynamic cigar with impressive transitions that deliver both sweetness and spice in equal measure. While strength perceptions varied widely among the STARS—ranging from mild to near full, and differences of opinions on draw/burn/smoke output/—the consensus was clear: the flavor complexity makes this a memorable smoke. It’s the kind of cigar best enjoyed after a satisfying dinner, when its richness and evolving profile can truly shine.
