With Dave back from TAA; he came with a bunch of samples in tow all the way back from Puerto Vallarta where the Tobacconist Association of America held their annual meetings. During the course of this get together of the top 80 retailers in the country; manufacturers offer a specific release that is exclusive to these retailers which Two Guys Smoke Shop is part of.
One of these releases is the 3rd Annual from Crowned Heads called, The Angel’s Anvil. The cigar which has been highly sought after over the last three years is made in the Dominican Republic and is in a box pressed format.
While the name calls on the initials of TAA Crowned Heads describes the back story ash “Legend has it that there was one fallen angel, in particular, who fell to Earth from the heavens, finding himself alone and lost. Unlike other fallen angels who were content to wander the earth in a soulless state of purgatory, this angel became bound and determined to find his way back to Heaven.
The angel soon realized that his only way back would be for him to forge a new set of wings by which he could ascend back to the heavenly skies. He walked the countryside for days and days, until he came upon a blacksmith. The blacksmith gave the angel a hammer and an anvil, and said to him, “With these tools you will forge your new wings. With these wings, you will announce the words, ‘Ascend Word He,‘ and you will find your way home.”

First Impression Review: The cold draw of The Angel’s Anvil has a syrup like sweetness and an abundance of chocolate while the foot reveals much of the same with a slight bit of spice. Upon the initial light the notes are warm chocolate with a hint of caramel. Moving on to the second third the caramel remains the primary note with some subtle spice and leather in the background. On the retrohale, some red pepper is introduced for the first time at the halfway point. The final third sees a peppermint like component added to the mix as the caramel fades and a licorice note lingers on the finish.
The Angel’s Anvil is something definitely worth being on the lookout for and upon the cigar’s official release watch for Derek’s in-depth review…
