For the longest time the cigar that has been the business card for Two Guys Smoke Shop has been Dos Hombres. The cigar which is a bundled house brand features a variation of the company logo. This year the company decided to take part in the limited edition Candela madness with a very limited edition Candela.
So today’s review we will find out if it is magically delicious, or fall by the wayside as many Candela cigars do.
Cigar Review: Dos Hombres Candela
Size: 7 x 50 (Churchill)
Wrapper: Candela
Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: Dominican Republic, Nicaragua
Strength: Medium
The Look: The Dos Hombres brand is a bundled cigar that doesn’t smoke like one and the Candela is a mint green variation of the brand. The cigar features an ugly-looking Candela wrapper with a lot of veins that is evenly rolled with no soft spots. The roll of the cigar is flawless with virtually no seams present. The foot of the cigar offers and amazing contrast to the green wrapper with its brown tobacco leaves that looks well packed.
The Notes: The cold draw of the Dos Hombres Candela offers some subtle sweetness that dare I say it; remind me of pea pods. There is also a subtle cotton candy like note as well. Taking the foot to the nose there is a light hay note and some cedar.
Once the cigar is lit there is a slight vegetal note that is expected with a Candela wrapper, but there is also a nice sweetness that borders on caramel with a touch of spice on the palate and through the nose. As the first third comes to a close some subtle cocoa and spice appear as the vegetal note as completely dissipated.
The second third of the cigar becomes toasty with notes of toasted bread, and cedar. Through the nose the cigar has some subtle pepper notes and a hint of vanilla cream. Some sweetness remains on the palate but it has taken more of a back seat in the middle portion of the cigar.
The last third of the cigar comes off as Nicraguan, with an abundance of nice spicy notes that don’t overpower the senses. There is some nutty notes with a continued vanilla cream. At times it reminds me a little bit of Bailey’s as some coffee teases the palate. Through the notes the cigar is earthy, and this finish is short.
The Burn: Like many Candela cigars the burn reveals a thick combustion line. This is to be expected as a Candela wrapper doesn’t get the extensive aging that would lead -to that thin mascara line. The draw of the cigar is perfect and the darker gray ash holds in one-third increments with no flake.
The Finish: There are a few similarities to this Candela that are reminiscent of the RoMaCraft version. Enough so that for me, I have smoked through half a bundle already. When buying a bundle, the cigar comes out to $2.95 and for me that makes this limited edition cigar worthy of a purchase. Not your typical green cigar, this one is full of flavor with a nice strength to it making it one of the best I have smoked. Quite simply put, it’s magically delicious.
