Let’s face it, when you smoke 3-6 cigars a day like I do, it can get to be an expensive proposition. Finding a bundle cigar that performs like a premium cigar is no easy task. I’ve smoked just about everything under the sun, and if you took the band off this cigar I would never in a million years refer to it as a bundle. In fact, it could easily pass for a lot of premium Nicaragua cigars on the market today.

The Look: The Dos Hombres comes packages in 20 count bundles and is available as a Dominican, Honduran and today’s review the Nicaraguan. Looking at the cigar with the green band that has a cartoon version of David Garofalo and his brother, the name represents Two Brothers. The cigar features a light brown wrapper with a few thin veins. The cigar is fairly oily with a nice weight and well packed foot.
The Taste: The cold draw of the Dos Hombres Nicaragua serves up some sweetness to it that is cherry like with a hint of earth. The aroma off the foot has a subtle spice and more earthy components.
Once the cigar is lit there are notes of tropical like sweetness that lingers in the background with elements of spice and earth and slight hint of cedar. Through the nose the retrohale introduces hints of strong espresso that make it on to the palate as the first third comes to a close.
In the second third of this well-balanced stick, the notes are predominantly coffee with subtle notes of earth and cedar. Through the nose on the retrohale the cigar shows its Nicaraguan roots with an abundance of white pepper.
In the last third of the cigar the white pepper through the nose tones it down considerably while the notes of earth and espresso remain dominant. The finish is moderate in length, and the cigar is an enjoyable take on Nicaraguan cigars.
The last third of the cigar mellowed out some with some continued pepper notes, but the spice of the cigar was less potent and even smoother at this point of the game which is a testament to how well rolled the cigar is. Despite the big Nicaragua taste, the coffee finish was short which was perfect in my book.
The Burn: The Dos Hombres Nicaragua has a near perfect burn and while the combustion line starts slightly thick it comes razor-thin by the end of the first third. The draw was perfect with the right amount of resistance and the ash held for more than a third at a time. The cigar remained lit from the initial light to the last puff.
The Finish: While the FDA regulations are a crushing blow to the cigar industry, there is a silver lining. That silver lining is instead of asking what is new, the question will become what is good. The answer to that would be Dos Hombres Nicaragua. The price can’t be beat, and the profile is enjoyable making this new to many of those outside of New England, but what’s good to those in the know.
