Foundation Cigar Company adds David Sather as Vice President
David Sather has officially joined Foundation Cigar Company as vice president and will manage sales, marketing and distribution in both the United States and international markets. A true tobacco professional, Sather began in the industry in 2000 with Drew Estate Cigar Company in New York City. He began as one of the first salespeople in the company, eventually rising to inside sales director before departing in 2011.
“Sather and I used to speak on the phone when he was in the Drew Estate office and I worked at the Calabash Shoppe in Connecticut,” said Nicholas Melillo president of Foundation Cigar Company. “David used to call us all the time at the store. Yes, he would call for business, but then he would call just to check in, see how an event went or talk about a new cigar that had just come out on the market. He really went above and beyond the normal business side and built a relationship.” Melillo adds, “He was there in Nicaragua when I moved down in 2003, so I have known Dave for a long time. People really enjoy working with Sather, he is one of the most intelligent men I know. He was the first person I thought of to come on and work with me at Foundation Cigars.”
In addition to writing two novels, soon to be published, David has worked as a business consultant in various industries as well as keeping a few interests around the cigar business over the past four years.
“I am very excited to be coming on board and working with a creative tobacco genius like Nick. His passion for blending is truly inspiring. I am looking forward to the opportunity, this will be fun,” said David Sather about joining Melillo at Foundation Cigar Company.
Sather will join Melillo working at the company’s headquarters in Connecticut.
