Geneva, NY Bans Smoking At Parks & Housing

Last week was a bad one for residents of Geneva, New York as they saw a ban on smoking in housing projects as well as a vote that makes it illegal to smoke in city parks.

Geneva is located in the Finger Lakes region of NY and the move to ban smoking in parks passed 7-0. The vote was sparked by the youth members of the local Boys & Girls Club.

Meanwhile, the city also passed a move that will ban smoking in all apartments go the Housing Authority which equates to over 200 apartments. The measure goes into effect October 1, 2015 but won’t be enforced until April 1st, 2016 when those who violate the ban could face eviction.

According to Andrew Tyaman who is the Executive Director of the housing authority the federal government is going to mandate the smoking ban soon for all federally subsidized housing units.
