Legislation that was defeated only a short while ago was put up for a vote a second time in the Illinois Senate yesterday. The measure which would raise the legal purchase age for tobacco and electronic cigarettes from 18 to 21 was passed by a vote of 32-22-2.
Despite falling 5 votes short in the past Sen. John Mulroe (D-Chicago), the bill’s sponsor, was able to get a second vote. In the second effort, he was able to sway enough of his colleagues to change the outcome and tell those old enough to die in war that they couldn’t purchase tobacco.
The bill still needs to pass the House before it is sent to the Governor.
